Pop up Japan

Proud East in Haggerston have recreated the taste and energy of Japan, 'the Land of the Rising Sun' with a 10 week takeover, featuring Japanese-inspired food, entertainment, cocktails, and workshops.

With fresh Japanese delicacies, music, cinema and various other events, there's a wide variation to suit a varied crowd. Restaurant Tonkotsu are catering with a specially designed menu that includes their authentically handmade noodles, their menu even states 'If you don't make your own noodles, you're just a soup shop'. From beer infused with coriander and nutmeg to seriously strong sake cocktails, there are fun ways to quench your thirst.

Check out their events calendar here as the festival allows you to try a bit of everything, offering sushi making, the art of origami, comedy nights, ping pong tables and more.

Our favourite is one of London’s best outdoor cinemas, the Nomad cinema, is transforming the riverside terrace into a cinema dream. They are screening classics such as Lost in Translation and Battle Royale, with all ticket sales given to a good cause ‘Save The Children Japan’.

If non of the above takes your fancy browse the market stalls heaped with authentic Japanese crafts, fashion, and homeware or just head to the neon-lit club nights in Proud East featuring live Japanese musicians, and DJs all night. Like we said, there's something for everyone.
