All-day Aussie dining
The Brew Café Group, renowned for their fresh take on Australian cuisine has 5 existing restaurants around London. We were tasked with designing the environment for their newest business venture – Antipodea. The new concept is situated just outside Kew Gardens station, 3 minutes away from our studio.
The all-day venue promises a “well-travelled” menu, with dishes from the Middle East and Pacific Rim as well as Melbourne a long with a more intimate restaurant area overlooking the kitchen for dining.

Service behind the counter runs in parallel to the restaurant seating space, which provides an airy, open plan feel to the 150 sqm space, which perfectly showcases the beautifully handmade sweet and savoury treats as well as the craftsmen creating them. The restaurant also features a curated selection of products for sale.
In keeping with the nature inspired aesthetic the space is scattered with nods to Kew Gardens as well as Brew’s heritage, the space features its own herb Garden, which provide the restaurant with fresh herbs for its dishes. Feature walls are adorned with botanical wallpaper, inspired by drawings found in the Kew Gardens archives.
We worked closely with the team at Antipodea to bring the new restaurant concept to life, embedding a true sense of locality into every element of the design. The space was heavily inspired by the surrounding area of Kew and Kew Gardens, with an overarching theme of ‘the potting shed.’ Planting and natural materials where used throughout the space to be in feeling with the atmosphere and heritage of the local area.
Key to Antipodea’s offer is the element of all-day dining. This was achieved by the addition of different lighting moods for day and evening, and applying a more elevated style to the bar area. The space takes also takes inspiration from owner Jason Wells’ native Australia, with relaxed atmosphere and great quality food at the heart.
